When the door won't cooperate and you can't wait until morning
Most garage door problems happen at the worst possible times โ late at night, early in the morning before work, on a Sunday when you're trying to get out of the driveway. A door that won't close is more than an inconvenience. It's a security issue, and in Ohio winters it can mean frozen pipes, damaged vehicles, and a garage full of cold air by morning.
We take emergency calls across Columbus and all surrounding suburbs. No extra charge for evenings, overnight calls, or weekend service. The price you pay for a spring replacement at 9pm Tuesday is the same as it would be at 10am Thursday.
The most common emergency calls we get in Columbus
Broken torsion spring
This is the most frequent emergency call we run. The spring snaps โ usually at night during cold weather โ and the opener can't lift the door without it. You'll often hear a loud bang from inside the house when it goes. The door sits where it is, fully closed, and won't move. Don't try to force it open manually. Spring replacement is typically a one-hour repair and we carry springs sized for the most common Columbus residential doors.
Door stuck open
A door that's stuck in the open or half-open position is an immediate security concern. The most common causes are a broken cable, a roller that's come out of the track, or a failed opener that's left the door mid-cycle. Whatever the cause, a door that can't close needs to be dealt with the same day.
"A woman in Hilliard called us at 9pm on a Tuesday โ her door had come off the track and she couldn't get her car out for a 6am work shift. She'd tried pushing the rollers back in herself, which made it worse. We were there by 10, had it back on track and cycling by 10:45. The thing you don't want to do with an off-track door is force it โ you'll bend the track and turn a $150 fix into a $400 one."
Door won't close โ sensor or opener issue
If the door goes up fine but won't come down, the most common culprits are the safety sensor eyes at the base of the door tracks. Even a leaf or a cobweb crossing the sensor beam will stop the door from closing. Check whether the sensor lights are both solid โ if one is blinking, something is interrupting the beam. We can diagnose and fix sensor alignment, wiring issues, and opener logic board failures on an emergency call.
Cable snapped
A snapped cable usually takes the door with it โ one side drops and the door hangs at an angle, inoperable. This often happens simultaneously with a spring failure because the spring breaking transfers all the load to the cable. We replace cables in pairs when one snaps, and we check the spring system at the same time.
What to do while you wait for us
- If the door is stuck open and you can't stay home, move valuables inside and close interior doors into the house from the garage.
- Don't try to manually force a door with a broken spring โ the torsion spring hardware is under significant tension and a broken one is unstable.
- If the door is partially open and blocking a vehicle, don't try to drive under it โ call us first and we'll talk you through whether the door can be safely raised to clear the vehicle.
- If the door went off track, don't attempt to run it with the opener โ this will bend the track and make the repair significantly more expensive.
- If you suspect a spring is broken, look above the door for the torsion spring mounted on the horizontal shaft โ a broken spring will have a visible gap in the coil.

Emergency repair โ common questions
Is there an extra charge for emergency calls?
No. Evenings, weekends, and overnight calls are priced the same as regular service. The repair cost is the repair cost โ we don't add a premium for inconvenient timing.
How fast can you get to me?
For most Columbus and Franklin County addresses, one to two hours on an emergency call is typical. We'll give you an honest arrival window when you call โ not a false promise.
My door is stuck open. Is this a security risk?
Yes. A door stuck open is an open invitation. If you can't stay home, close interior doors from the garage to the house and move valuables out of the garage. Call us โ we treat open-door emergencies as priority calls.
Can I use my garage door with a broken spring?
No. Don't attempt to operate a door with a broken torsion spring, either with the opener or manually. The hardware is under abnormal stress and the door can fall. Leave it in place and call us.
